This Altitude Package ASTM D6653 Leak Testing System is specifically designed to test the seal integrity of your products as well as the feasibility of your products for air transport (product stability at higher altitudes). Some packages transported by airplane experience a pressure differential of an equivalent of 19,000ft. Moreover, some North American Roads(when being transported across the Rocky Mountains) will experience an altitude of 12,000 feet. A higher altitude yields to a higher pressure differential between the inside of a sealed product and outside of a sealed product. Altitude of 19,000 feet creates a pressure differential of about 14 inHg (7psi) – this is why it is critical that you confirm that your product is able to withstand and pass the altitude package leak test.

Our ASTM D6653 Leak Testing System consists of a vacuum chamber, a vacuum pump, and a vacuum controller; or a manual vacuum adjustment valve for the manual system. You have a choice between a fully transparent acrylic vacuum chamber, a stainless steel vacuum chamber with acrylic door, or a stainless steel vacuum chamber with a stainless steel door with viewport. The transparent vacuum chamber will get you to an altitude equivalent of 250,000 ft, the stainless steel chamber will get you to an altitude equivalent of deep space.

You can also choose your vacuum pump to either by an oil free piston pump, a rotary vane pump, or a turbo pump (rotary vane and turbo pump system). Again, the type of vacuum pump you choose depends on your vacuum requirements, the oil free piston pump will get you to about 26inHg and will emit no oil mist and is a good choice if you are in a closed door clean laboratory environment. The rotary vane vacuum pump will get you to about 1.5 millitorr absolute pressure and must be maintained by filling up oil. The oil mist emissions can be mitigated by installing an oil mist eliminator which reduces 99.98% oil mist emissions.

You can also choose your vacuum controller. Our ASTM D6653 vacuum controller is designed, built, and programmed to run the protocol specified vacuum profile of vacuum rise, vacuum hold (dwell), and vacuum decrease. This is something that you will have a hard time doing with a manual system.

Finally, you can also choose to place all the components onto a fully portable system by adding a table frame structure and placing the chamber and controller onto the table top while the vacuum pump is placed on the bottom shelf.
